6 Zoom® Teeth Whitening FAQs

Teeth Whitening Normal, IL

Zoom® teeth whitening is a whitening procedure that brightens the natural color of the teeth for a more sparkling and vibrant appearance. This whitening method uses a unique whitening gel with a special light wavelength that activates and releases oxygen molecules in the gel. The activated oxygen penetrates the pores of the tooth enamel to disintegrate the stain pigments. The result is a whiter and brighter smile.

6 FAQs about Zoom® teeth whitening

The dentist will first examine the teeth and ascertain their color. Afterward, a dental dam will be placed in the mouth to protect the gums and other soft tissues from the whitening agent. The whitening agent will be applied over the teeth surfaces, and a special light is placed over them. This whitening gel is cleaned off after about 15 minutes and replaced with a unique fluoride material. The whitening treatment starts after this. Each Zoom session comprises three parts, lasting between 60 to 90 minutes. Patients will typically complete about three to four sessions to achieve the desired results.

1. Is there any risk to the tooth enamel?

Zoom whitening has been proven to be safe without any risk to the tooth enamel. There is also no health risk associated with the procedure.

2. Will the whitening procedure be painful?

Zoom® teeth whitening is not painful. Occasionally, tooth sensitivity may occur afterward, causing minor discomfort. The sensitivity only lasts for a day or two after the treatment. Patients who already have sensitive teeth may notice a flare-up after, but this is nothing serious and can be treated. Patients need to tell the dentist if they have tooth sensitivity before undergoing the Zoom treatment.

3. How long do the results last?

The results of the Zoom treatment usually last a long time. This mostly depends on the patient's oral health habits and diet. With good oral hygiene and reduced consumption of teeth-staining foods and drinks, the results can last between two to three years.

4. What are the precautions to note after Zoom whitening?

The whitening procedure opens up the tooth enamel to absorbing moisture for about 48 hours. Therefore, the dentist will recommend avoiding any tooth-staining item, including tea, soda, red wine, coffee, ketchup, and tobacco products. Observing this precaution plays a major role in how long the results of the whitening treatment last.

5. Who is ineligible for Zoom teeth whitening?

Most people can undergo the procedure safely. However, the dental professional will not recommend the procedure for children below age 14, pregnant or lactating women, people with severe tooth sensitivity, and those getting any form of photochemotherapy. The procedure is also contraindicated for those with any type of skin cancer.

6. How do I maintain teeth whiteness after the procedure?

Aside from watching their diet, patients also need to adopt good oral health habits. This means brushing and flossing at least twice daily and visiting the dentist every six months for checkups and cleaning. Also, the dentist can provide take-home whitening trays to use as a touch-up treatment.
